Environmental Action
South Falkirk played a
central role at the time of
the Industrial Revolution
in Scotland. When mines
and factories closed, degraded, under-utilsed
land remained.
Environmental Justice
Falkirk Council, Callendar Estate, The Central Scotland Forest Trust and partners within the community plan
to restore large areas to improve the environment, improve land management, create nature reserves and to provide improved access for environmental education,
health and recreation.
Six key areas have been selected for the restoration project:
* Rough Castle
* Drum Wood
* Tamfour Hill Wood
* Lionthorn Wood
* The Cleugh
* Pirley Hill Wood
The aim is to recapture the woods for local communities who will want to care for them, changing the perception of Falkirk so that people will see it as somewhere which is environmentally attractive. |
